The second half of the workshop prepares faculty to adopt inquiry-based instruction and problem-based learning. Participants are introduced to a range of inquiry-based teaching methods and given the time and support needed to tailor this approach to their own classes.

SUMMARY:NETI-1 Onsite Armament University
DESCRIPTION:This on site offering of Course Design and Student Engagement provides a practical overview of instructional design for STEM instructors.  NETI-1 participants receive instruction and hands-on practice in the elements of effective teaching—motivating students\, course planning\, effective lecturing\, active learning\, inclusive teaching\, assessment of learning\, and dealing with the variety of problems that commonly arise in the life of a faculty member. The workshop provides new faculty with tips on getting their careers off to a good start while more experienced faculty are given the opportunity to explore advanced topics of their choosing. In a survey of NETI-1 alumni\, participants reported that the workshop had a positive effect on both their students’ learning and their student evaluations. \nWorkshop open to members of the Armament University community OR public with appropriate military base access.

If you’re interested in research-based guidance on these issues\, we are pleased to announce an upcoming offering of the National Effective Teaching Institute (NETI-1B)\, Strategies for Promoting Student Engagement.  \nThis workshop is designed for instructors who have taught at least one year\, and will benefit instructors with many years of experience who are looking to take their teaching to a new level. This online workshop for STEM instructors focuses on effective strategies for engaging students in both face-to-face and online classes.  \nTopics explored in the workshop include:  \n\nstrategies to enhance student motivation\nresearch-based student-engagement techniques (active learning)\nways to provide an inclusive class environment that engages all students. \n\nDue to the continuing challenges surrounding the Covid-19 Pandemic\, the Institute and it’s facilitators have elected to conduct this workshop via web interface (zoom). It is our sincere hope that by the summer of 2022 we will return to offering in-person workshops!
